Photography Contest
RMCD is having a photo contest, "The Wonders of Arkansas", it is open to amateur photographers who are residents of Polk, Montgomery, and Sevier Counties. Each photo has to fit in one of the three photo categories (listed below). One entry per category but participants can enter one photo in each of the three categories.
One adult and one youth winner will be selected for each category. Each 1st place winner will receive a $25 cash prize. One photo will be chosen from the 1st place winners as "Grand Prize Winner" for each age group, a $50 cash prize for the youth age group and a gift basket valued at over $200 from local businesses for the adult group. Photos will be judged February 2nd.
Photo Categories:
1. Landscape/Waterscape
2. Livestock/Wildlife
3. Forest/Plants
Adults - 18 yrs of age and older
Youth - 17 yrs of age and younger
Category Explanation:
1. Landscape/Waterscape - photos of lakes, hills, mountains, streams, any picture in which the scenery is the primary focus and taken in Arkansas.
2. Livestock/Wildlife - cows, horses, pigs, deer, birds, chickens, any animal which fits one of these definitions
3. Forest/Plants - trees, flowers, grass, any type of tree, shrub and/or plant found in nature in Arkansas
Entry Instructions:
*Photos must be submitted:
1. 5" x 7" photo(s) turned in no later than 4:00 pm Monday, January 25, 2021 @ 508 7th Street Mena, AR
2. No glass or photos in frames
3. Photos may be taken by a digital camera or phone camera
4. Photo submitted in electronic format to richmountainconservation@gmail.com
Please note: If you intend to enter more than one photo (maximum of three photos per participant), you may submit all entries on the same entry form, but photo release form, if required, for each photo. Any photo depicting children and/or adults without appropriate signed release form will not be considered for the contest. If they can be identified in the photo you must submit a signed photo release prior to judging or the photo will be eliminated.
Additional Guidelines
Photos will be judged on technical merit and composition. For technical merit, judges may check to see if the photo is well-framed, properly exposed and sharp and clear. For composition, judges determine if the photo features a recognizable center of interest, action and imagination and creativity. - Black-and-white prints, color prints and prints from digital photos are all acceptable and will be judged together.
- Images must not have been digitally altered in any way other than necessary burning, dodging and cropping.
- Do not send photo reproductions from a printed publication.
- All entries become the property of RMCD, and RMCD reserves the non-exclusive right to use all photographs in publications or for promotional purposes.

Conservation Camp

2017 Conservation Camp sponsored by the Cossatot and Rich Mountain Conservation Districts is scheduled for June 1 & 2, 2017 at the Cossatot Reefs at Gillham Lake. It is a great camp for students entering the 6th, 7th and 8th grade in the fall that live in Polk and Sevier Counties. If interested in participating, contact you Conservation District Office!
Arbor Day Program

4th grade students from Ouachita River School - Acorn Campus, Cossatot River School - Wickes and Vandervoort Campus' and Holly Harshman Elementary School were presented a Pine Tree Seedling to take home and plant. Jerry Huff and Jody Miller of Arkansas Forestry Commission, Mary Holland of Natural Resources Conservation Service and Amy Bult of Rich Mountain Conservation District gave information to the students about the importance of trees and the proper way to plant and care for the them. Danny Powell and Roy Ferguson donated the tree seedlings.
